Gallery 9C: Bunraku Postcards by Saito Seijiro
This gallery features postcards by the artist Saito Seijiro (1894-1973) depicting various scenes from Bunraku puppet theater performances. The cards vary in either showing the puppeteers in the traditional black clothing that is meant to hide them or in showing the puppeteers as uncovered. Additional depictions of bunraku puppets and performances can be found in the senjafuda and matchbox print galleries.
