Gallery 4A: Prints by Inagaki Tomoo
Inagaki Tomoo (1902-1980) is best known for his prints of cats, although he also produced prints with other imagery including landscapes and flowers. Initially self-taught, he later attended commercial and advertising art schools. He opened his own commercial design studio but the business failed due to WWII, However, the post-war market associated with occupying forces allowed him to thrive selling the works that he is now known for.
The following works are tentatively attributed to Inagaki Tomoo, although the seals differ from his typical seal for small prints in that they are enclossed within a pentagonal box or circle. It is possible that these were created by another artist.
