Gallery 9A: Postcard prints by Tokuriki Tomikichirō
Tokuriki Tomikichirō (1902-2000) was a prolific designer of woodblock printed postcards that mostly focused on landscapes and city views of Kyoto in the Sōsaku-hanga (creative prints) tradition. In the aftermath of WWII Tokuriki set up his own publishing company, Matsukyu, which produced postcards of his designs as well as a number of other artists. Postcards from his publishing company have backs that state “By Wood-block Printer T. Tokuriki” even though the woodblock image may be by another artist. The postcard prints in this gallery are all by, or attributed to Tokuriki.
