Gallery 4G: Hashimoto Okiie

Hashimoto Okiie (1899–1993) began his career as a school art teacher. He began creating woodblock prints after he attended a workshop organized by Un’ichi Hiratsuka in 1936. In 1939, he joined the First Thursday Society, led by the leading sosaku hanga artist Kōshirō Onchi.  Okiie is known for simplified and decorative forms and a preference to depict Japanese gardens and castles.
